The Institution: MIE – Malta ICOM Educational

MIE – Malta ICOM Educational is a higher education institution accredited by the Malta Further and Higher Education Authority (MFHEA) as a degree awarding institution (Licence 2018-023). Since its foundation in 2008, MIE has been committed to providing quality education based on three key principles:

With two campuses in Malta (Santa Venera and Gzira) and a clinical centre in Italy (Cinisello Balsamo), MIE has become a key player in healthcare education in Europe. The institution offers a range of study programmes, including osteopathy, physiotherapy and dental hygiene, taught in multiple languages to meet the needs of a diverse student population.

The admission process

Admission to MIE – Malta ICOM Educational is based on a careful assessment of the candidate’s motivation and ability to follow and succeed in a rigorous Physiotherapy programme. The primary goal of the teaching team is to guide each student towards academic success. The profession of physiotherapist requires passion for health sciences, interest in people and strong resilience.

To achieve this goal, we pay particular attention to the following points:

  • Motivation : Applicants must demonstrate a clear understanding of the Physiotherapy profession and an active interest in healthcare.
  • Academic level: results in scientific subjects are important, as is consistency and seriousness in previous studies.
  • Maturity and Resilience: The candidate must demonstrate responsibility, the ability to overcome obstacles, and a serious attitude towards academic commitments. The candidate’s ability to maintain a life balance conducive to study is essential for success in this program.

Stages of the admission process

Application examination The file includes the following documents:

  •  of the high school diploma (if already obtained).
  • Photocopies of diplomas (including postgraduate, if applicable ).
  • Grades obtained in higher education.
  • Cover letter explaining interest in the Physioteraphy program.

To complete the application a registration fee of €170 is required.

Admissions Interview

This interview, lasting approximately 20 minutes, is designed to assess the candidate’s motivation, background and goals. The aim is to ensure that the candidate’s ambitions match the program requirements. The interview also examines the candidate’s organizational skills, to ensure that they will be able to follow the program through to graduation.

Applications – prerequisites and eligible profiles

  • Applicants with a High School Diploma or Equivalent : All applicants must have a high school diploma, a technology diploma, or its equivalent, or be in the process of obtaining one prior to the start of the school year.
  • Candidates with scientific or professional backgrounds: Healthcare professionals may benefit from exemptions from Credit for Prior Learning (CPL), but will have to follow the program in the same groups as initial training, as MIE does not offer a specific calendar for these profiles.
  • Transfer Students from Other Physical Therapy Schools : Students who have completed their physical therapy training at other institutions may also apply to the MIE . They will go through the same admissions process as other applicants. Their academic record and internship portfolio (which describes their clinical experience) will be reviewed by the admissions committee . Based on this evaluation, they may be offered first-year admission or second -year admission .

Eligibility and Registration

  • Once declared “admitted” by the admissions committee , the candidate will have the opportunity to register for the beginning of the following school year. Registration is subject to the signing of the enrollment contract, the internal regulations of the school and a deposit to guarantee the place.
  • Once registered and deposit paid, the candidate has 15 days to withdraw freely and without charges . The deposit of 10% of the annual fee will then be refunded. Only the registration fee will be retained by ICOM.
  • Candidates may consult the registration contract model and the internal regulations at any time.

The cost of training

Physiotherapy programme at MIE – Malta ICOM Educational has several fees, including tuition fees, seminar costs and insurance .

1. University fees The annual cost of training is €10,000 for the academic year 2025/2026. To confirm enrollment, students must pay a deposit of 10% of the annual tuition fee + €170 enrollment fee subsequently and no later than 15 days from the date of completion of the registration form. Payment facilities for university fees are available:

  • One-time payment : the balance will be paid by October .
  • Payment in four installments : payment of the balance in four installments scheduled for October, January, April, June
  • Payment in ten installments : the balance will be paid in installments from October to July

In addition, several banks offer loans to finance studies based on whether or not you meet certain requirements identified by the lending bank.

Course organization, travel and accommodation costs

All theoretical and practical courses are held in person at the MIE campuses in Malta. The courses are focused on 6 -2 week seminars (12 weeks per year) every year, during which attendance is mandatory.

  • Transportation : The cost of a return flight ticket for a seminar is approximately €150 for a return trip. between the largest cities (Milan, Rome, Turin, Bologna) and Malta , provided that it is booked in advance, since the course programme is communicated at the latest in September.
  • Accommodation : MIE offers accommodation starting from €28 per night , shared with other MIE students during the seminars. For a 15-day course, a minimum of 14 nights of accommodation is required.

Information about the Degree Title

Physiotherapy programme at MIE – Malta ICOM Educational enables students to obtain a four-year degree in Physiotherapy – B.Sc. Physiotherapy . The programme is structured as follows:

  • Credits : 240 ECTS
  • Duration : 4 years , full-time (with a flexible part-time option)
  • Campus : Il-Gzira, Malta
  • Teaching language : Italian
  • Next training year : October 2025
  • Accreditation : Programme accredited by the Maltese Ministry of Higher Education (MFHEA)
